Ecolab is a leading provider of products and services to the healthcare, Food & Beverage, FMCG and industrial markets and together with Carlton & United Breweries (CUB), will donate around 20,000 litres of hand sanitiser to frontline medical staff as they fight COVID-19 in emergency wards around the country.

The hand sanitiser will help healthcare workers while sanitiser is in short supply. Ecolab will make the hand sanitiser using additional ethanol secured with support from CUB, ensuring thousands of litres of sanitiser gets to where it’s needed most.

Jan Pacas, Managing Director, Ecolab AU, NZ, Pacific said: “We are very happy to be partnering with CUB - this partnership has provided a big boost to our hand sanitiser production in a time when it’s been crucially needed – especially for our healthcare providers who are on the frontline.

Ecolab has been running on significantly increased shifts and capacity as demand for critical products like hand sanitiser, is up more than 1000%.

We are also in the process of ensuring all Ecolab employees in the region receive free hand sanitiser and other products to keep them safe.”

The first of the 60,000 bottles produced for the community in partnership with CUB, will start leaving Ecolab’s facilities this week.

On a normal day, about 1 in 31 hospital patients has at least one healthcare-associated infection. A healthcare-associated infection (HAI) is an infection that a person acquires at a hospital (or other healthcare setting), when already admitted for another issue - according to Ecolab data, the primary cause of these infections is lack of hand hygiene. The healthcare department at Ecolab has a goal of reducing the number of healthcare-associated infections and now amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, this need is even greater.
