Nalco Champion is a global leader in controlling and mitigating the fouling of butadiene plants. We offer chemical treatment programs for all major butadiene extraction processes and isoprene extraction units. Our programs are adjusted to specific designs, customer requirements and plant limitations, and have been validated over more than twenty years of successful application.

Butadiene is commonly recovered from mixed C4 streams using solvent extraction. Butadiene is a monomer prone to polymerization, and the most common limitation during butadiene production is the formation of polybutadiene through unwanted polymerization. Tars consisting of solvent degradation products, and often antifoams, also contribute to fouling. Vapor spaces with high butadiene concentrations are also vulnerable to popcorn polymer fouling.
The Nalco Champion solution offers:
A comprehensive treatment programme for extraction section fouling control
An effective popcorn polymer control programme
A Mechanical, Operational, and Chemical (MOC) approach to problem solving
In addition to our chemical programme, we provide extensive performance monitoring, sample analysis and Best Practice Gas Analysis (BPGA).
